Conservation of native forests in Misiones under the jurisdictional REDD+ (JNR) program
Coralia developed and supported the Government of the Province of Misiones in implementing one of the most significant jurisdictional forest conservation programs in Latin America, through the REDD+ approach (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation).

Overview
Coralia provided comprehensive technical support to the Government of the Province of Misiones in the development and implementation of its Jurisdictional REDD+ Program (REDD+ Jurisdictional and Nested REDD+) in accordance with the Verra JNR standard. The program, named 'JNR Misiones,' aims primarily to conserve the province’s native forests and reduce emissions from deforestation.
During the first monitoring period (2017–2022), the program successfully prevented the deforestation of approximately 70,000 hectares of native forest, protecting biodiversity, preserving ecosystem services, and resulting in a reduction of over 10 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (tCO₂e) in greenhouse gas emissions.
Our team led the preparation of the Project Description (PD), the Monitoring Report (MR), and the Non-Permanence Risk Report, providing detailed technical analysis, methodological rigor, and strategic recommendations. We also offered continuous advisory support to the Government of the Province of Misiones throughout the validation and verification process, from methodological design to the final issuance of Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) by Verra.
In addition, we actively collaborated in implementing the provincial REDD+ strategy, coordinating with local stakeholders and promoting governance mechanisms that ensure participation and benefits for the communities involved. This project represents a milestone in subnational climate action and in recognizing the ecosystem services provided by the forests of Misiones.
